The challenge
Nikkei Asia wanted a means of publishing third-party press releases quickly and efficiently without disrupting its editorial team's existing workflow.
The solution needed to scale as the business grew, supporting more customers and different RSS feed formats while creating a new B2B revenue stream through paid press release distribution.
The response
Integrating with Nikkei Asia's Content Management System (CMS), we created services to schedule the retrieval and storage of press releases from customer-specific RSS feeds.
A configuration-based approach meant new feeds could be onboarded quickly with no need for additional code. And rather than extending the standard CMS content model, we stored press release data in a separate database table, which offered faster iteration and more flexible formatting.
Supporting PHP services, repositories and API controllers managed data operations, while scheduled feed ingestion ensured reliable, automated import of third-party content.
We also introduced a dedicated dashboard and user role within the CMS, giving the editorial team a familiar place to review and manage imported press releases, with zero disruption.
The existing content API was extended to handle the new press release articles and deliver them to Nikkei Asia's readers. Two dedicated pages present the new content in a consistent and familiar format.
The outcome
Bluetel delivered the project to a soft deadline using a modular, extensible architecture aligned with Nikkei Asia's existing platform. Press releases slotted into established editorial workflows, using familiar tools and governance processes.
The configuration-driven ingestion capability integrated cleanly with Nikkei Asia's technical estate while remaining scalable for future prospects.
Customer onboarding was cut to under four hours, with additional revenue raised through distribution fees.
The boost
We brought a new commercial offering to market quickly, with minimal impact on Nikkei Asia’s existing operations or infrastructure costs.
